Producer’s Message

We have been working hard to get together the over 100 artists, authors, thinkers, entertainers and leaders from our own homeland and from across the globe to inspire, educate, entertain and delight all of you new and old Storymoja Festival goers!

With this edition, the Storymoja Festival officially turns 10 years old from the first time it appeared as Storymoja Nyama Choma Reading Fiesta.

This edition of the festival comes just a few weeks after disputed presidential elections and a historic ruling nullifying the presidential elections . It is apt then, that the Storymoja Festival 2017 theme is Black Peace. And in celebration of this very important theme, we are acknowledging ethnic, political and other forms of conflict that exist between us.  We envision this theme accommodating conversations in literature, tourism, culture to panel discussions such as Tourism in Nairobi (photography, travel, festivals), The Big Conservation Lie, Femmolution, The Journey of the 44th Tribe, The State of Piracy in the Kenyan Literary Scene and Disability: Law and Rights, and so on throughout the festival.

We bring you a program, full and delicious, of book discussions, public lectures, master classes & workshops, art & theatre shows, concerts, teen talent, competitions, jobs & careers, schools and family programs. The writers who will thrill us this year include the 2017 Caine Prize South Sudanese winner – Bushra Al-Fadil, celebrated Kenyan comedian Churchill and NLNG winner Abubakar Ibrahim. [See Program]

This year’s festival continues to answer the question posed by Luci Simiyu, a past festival guest, “Where else would you find a blend of diverse people, groups and age groups coming together to savor the rich literary heritage of our continent?”

Karibu to the 10th Storymoja Festival! And thank you to all the writers, readers , creatives, partners and sponsors  for the ten years of friendship and love.
